Love The Skin You're In

weight loss challenge group

As a woman and a mom of 3 I know what it's like to be so hard on how you view your body. You nit pick every little flaw. You long to look like someone else. You wish babies didn't mean stretch marks and saggy skin in places. For me, after 3 C-sections, you wish the scar wasn't there.

I know what it's like to be so FRUSTRATED and DEPRESSED with your body. 6 years ago I was a miserable mess. I had NO clothes, no self confidence, I wouldn't even leave my house anymore with my family, it was that bad.

I was exhausted and I needed something NOW!  I didn’t love my skin, I didn’t feel good and I had to make a change.  I was introduced to clean eating, Beachbody at home workouts, and Shakeology for the first time through a friend on Facebook.  I was so mortified of my body I didn't even let my husband take my "before" photos.

I joined a support and accountability group because I was at a loss for how to change.  I didn’t have the money to go to the gym, to get a trainer, a nutritionist and pay for childcare.  But I did have a living room I could work out in when the girls napped, a dvd to play the workouts on and the 100% drive and determination to change.
Over the course of those next several months I focused on “ME” for at least 45 minutes each day.  I would put the girls down for a nap and workout. Or I'd wait till bedtime. Sometimes I just had to put them in a bouncy chair while I worked out.

I sweated, I cried, I thought I would never change, but then right before my eyes my body started to change.  As I embraced clean eating and drank shakeology daily my skin began to glow, my hair and nails got stronger, and I had more natural energy to keep up with my kids.  I was stronger and I started to have more confidence. Family and friends were starting to notice changes. I went from not being able to do ONE sit up or push up to doing several. I was getting stronger by the day! I LOVED how I was feeling. Loved how I could see the depression and frustration melt away with each workout.

I can say that because of my coach, the support of the challenge group and the other women in the group I truly have found a way to love the skin that I am in!  It’s never going to be my pre baby skin but hey I earned those stretch marks and scars!  I earned my imperfections and I learned to love them! They are a part of who I am.

So now, my job as a coach is to pay it forward.  I am going to be launching a specific accountability and support group that is geared towards matching you up and with a fitness program and nutrition guide to meet your needs but to walk you through the process of changing your unhealthy habits, creating a more positive mindset, embracing your imperfections and chucking the word diet to the wind.  We are not dieting, we are creating a healthy lifestyle.

Check it out! Me "before" about 6 months after my 2nd daughter was born. Then 6 months later, abs after 2 C-sections!!! Crazy ain't it?!

What Do I Need For This Group?
-Each participant is required to have me as their coach.  You can create an account here. If you have a coach already, please get with them!

-You are required to do a Beachbody fitness program, which I will help you to pick the one that best fits your needs.

-You are required to replace 1 meal a day with Shakeology for the duration of the 6 weeks because as I am teaching you how to change your eating habits and give you the tools to make this a lifestyle change we want to have at least 1 meal each day that is quick and easy but isn't lacking in your nutritional quality.  Shakeology does that!  It is my saving grace because quite honestly there are days that I am so busy that I don't have time to make a balanced meal so this is my go to!!!  Plus it really does taste awesome!

-You are required to log into our online closed Facebook group daily where I am going to share tips, recipes, meal plans, & support/motivation.

-My goal is to get you a program that you are excited about and that you start and complete it. I do not want it to be something that sits on your shelf and collects dust!

Does this sound like something you would like to do?

If so, take the time to complete the application below.  I will contact you within 24 hours to discuss whether this would be a good fit!  I am accepting a small group of customers for this group and I would love to have some motivated women who are really ready to make a change!  Lets face it, there will never be a perfect time.  The right time is now!  So lets get started!

I am NOT going to let you fail!  I am giving you my word that I am going to support, guide and help you to truly make a change, live a more positive life and embrace who you are on the inside out!  We live in a world full of comparison and its time to chuck that to the wind and just BE YOU!!

Beef Bone Broth Recipe

beef bone broth recipe

Whether or not you partake in the trend of sipping a mug of bone broth for its numerous health benefits, or you just want a delicious base for soups and to add flavor to whole grains, this recipe is a great place to start. Don’t be put off by the long cooking time, the pot can simmer unwatched for hours or even overnight with a very low flame (as long as you’re comfortable with this and follow all necessary safety precautions). You can even use a slow-cooker! The result is a large quantity of marvelously flavorful broth that tastes great on it’s own and can be used in any recipe that calls for broth.
Money-Saving Tip: When you’re chopping vegetables for any recipe, collect the ends of onions, celery, carrots, and leeks in a bag and store in the freezer. Save leftover chicken bones (or beef bones) in a separate bag. When you have enough, make bone broth! You don’t need the full 5 lbs. of bones called for in this recipe. If you have fewer bones and vegetables, just reduce the amount water accordingly.

Beef Bone Broth

Total Time: 12 hr. 20 min.
Prep Time: 20 min.
Cooking Time: 12 hr.
Yield: approximately 2½ to 3 quarts, or 40 ¼ cup servings
Ingredients:
5 lbs. beef back (or neck) bones (or chicken carcasses or lamb bones)
¼ cup apple cider vinegar (or fresh lemon juice)
2 medium onions, cut into quarters (or 2 leeks, coarsely chopped)
2 medium carrots, coarsely chopped
4 medium celery stalk ends, coarsely chopped
2 to 3 bay leaves
1 Tbsp. black peppercorns
Cold water
Preparation:
1. Place bones, vinegar, onions, carrots, celery, bay leaves, and peppercorns in a large stock pot.
2. Add enough water to cover bone mixture by 1 to 2 inches, leaving room at the top of the pan. Cover. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat; gently boil for 1 hour. Remove any meat left on bones. Set meat aside for future use.
3. Return bones to a gentle boil for 2 to 24 hours, or until bones crumble and look bleached. (Gently boil chicken bones for 6 to 12 hours, or until they crumble.)
4. Skim off any foam that develops during cooking.
5. Strain liquid using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
6. Use broth immediately or refrigerate for up to three days.
Tips:
• Bones can be roasted for 30 to 60 minutes before boiling. This caramelizes the bones and gives the broth even better flavor.
• Bone broth can be cooled and frozen.
• Save any fat from the broth. It is highly nutritious and can be used to roast vegetables or make soups.

Healthy Breakfast In Under 5 Minutes

Crunched for time in the mornings? Think you JUST don't have time for a breakfast, much less a healthy one? Think again! On my busy days, I either whip up a Shakeology or make an omelet in my cute lil gadget. I picked it up at the grocery store for a few bucks, I'm sure you can find one on Amazon.
21 day fix meal

Step 1: Whisk 1-3 eggs in a cup.

Step 2: Pour half the eggs into each side of the cooker and leave open. Microwave 1-1.5 minutes. {For 2 eggs, 1 minute. 1 egg, 30 seconds}

Step 3: Take out of microwave and let set. Prepare your omelet filling (meats, cheeses, veggies). Add filling to one side, close cooker and microwave again. 1 minute for 3 eggs. Reduce time for 1-2 eggs.

Step 4: Carefully remove, open your cooker and your omelet will come right out. NO sticking :) Eat and enjoy your protein packed breakfast!

I put spinach in mine with a side of fresh made guacamole and sliced organic strawberries! Filling, delicious, and healthy!

NOTES: For those that follow the 21 Day Fix meal plan here are your container usages for this meal: 1/2 Green, 1 Blue, 1/2 Purple, and 1 Red!

6 Tips To Break Junk Food Cravings!

how to lose weight

Why we’re hooked on garbage

It’s safe to say that junk food addiction is a very real thing. The first place to look for proof is the ever-mounting pile of scientific evidence, including a study out of Sweden showing that the hormone ghrelin, which activates the brain’s reward system and increases appetite, reacts similarly to sugar and alcohol.
Then there are the increasingly decadent foods we have 24-hour access to. In his book The End of Overeating, Dr. David Kessler theorizes that manufacturers have, over the years, engineered the balance of fat, sugar, and salt in junk food to the point of making it irresistible. He refers to our gluttonous response to this crackified food as “conditioned hypereating.”
Most of this current thinking revolves around physiological factors, such as the fact our brains are hardwired to seek out highly caloric foods as a “feast or famine” instinct left over from caveman days. Unfortunately, human beings are slightly more complex than our primitive ancestors. By adulthood, most of us are a hodgepodge of neuroses and psychoses for whom a Twinkie has become a security blanket, so this urge to splurge will never completely vanish. Sure, you can retrain your body to crave healthy food, but your psyche may never stop seeking validation, Hostess style.

How to keep that addiction under control

Luckily, a well-trained body goes a long way towards helping a slightly off-kilter mind. For example, if I were to force down that aforementioned slice of Sara Lee heaven, I’d get physically sick. After years of clean eating, my digestive system has lost its ability to handle the toxic effects of a sugar hit like that, not to mention the preservatives and additives. Thanks in part to these newfound “limitations,” today I can walk away from the cake or limit myself to one or two bites—but that’s taken years of training.
But it wasn’t easy. If you’re going to break a sugar habit, it’s going to take time, patience, and willpower. But take it from a chick who used to work her way through a half a box of Cap’n Crunch for breakfast: If I can do it, so can you. Here’s where to start.
1. Clean all the junk food out of your home.
Think of the stereotypical image of the woman getting dumped by her boyfriend and climbing into bed with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s. If that tub wasn’t in the freezer to begin with, odds are that our protagonist would have instead settled for a soak in the tub.
There’s also “unconscious eating” to worry about—when you just grab a bag of fried carbs while you’re sitting in front of the tube and stuff your face for no reason. If you don’t have access to the junk, the only bag you’ll be able to grab for will be filled with baby carrots. If someone brings some junk over for a dinner party, enjoy it with them and dump the rest when they leave.
2. Eat 80% clean.
Relax with that other 20%. Just because your kitchen cupboard no longer looks like a movie theater concession stand doesn’t mean you can’t live it up sometimes. If most of your diet is super tight, you’re doing great, so cut yourself some slack. When I made my first big push to clean up my diet,  Sunday was my cheat meal day. I ate like a saint 6 days a week, but every Sunday I one cheat meal. Knowing I had a cheat meal to look forward to made all the celery on the other days much more palatable.
3. Make a comforting ritual out of eating healthy.
The fact that my cheat meal was a ritual was also quite helpful. Unhealthy eating is often ritualistic—something comfortable and constant that you can depend on. Not only can you have your own cheat meal—a conscious, controlled, weekly moment of indulgence—but you can replace unhealthy rituals with healthy ones.
For example, I used to drink at least two servings of soda or sweet tea at dinner. When I realized that second drink wasn’t doing me any favors, I replaced it with a cup of water. The 21-days-to-form-a-habit thing has no scientific backing, but eventually a behavior pattern will set in. In my case, after three weeks I stopped missing that second Coke. Then, after a few more weeks I really started craving the water.
4. Carry healthy foods with you at all times.
If you carry a purse or a backpack, throw an apple or some raw nuts in there. In this Fast Food Nation, it’s pretty easy to find yourself in situations where you’re hungry and, shucks, you just have no choice but to buy a donut because that’s the only thing you have access to. You don’t have that excuse if there’s a snack in your pack. Here are a few to consider:
  • Fresh fruit (Apples, plums, pears, and stone fruit travel well!)
  • Dried fruit (It all travels well!)
  • Raw nuts
  • Whole-grain crackers
  • A Shakeology packet
5. Discover new, yummy fruits and veggies.
There’s a lot of weird, healthy food out there. Sometimes, we avoid fresh produce because either we’re either bored of the same old oranges or there’s a stigma associated with particular produce. Dad just forced you to eat asparagus one too many times. If this is a problem for you, buy fruits and veggies you don’t recognize. If you don’t know how to prepare it, do an internet search for “(produce name) + recipe.” You might stumble on a new flavor that completely blows your mind.
6. Binge on healthy foods.
I’m probably the only person who will ever give you this advice since it’s a wee bit questionable. Every once in the while, something emotional triggers me and I need to eat junk. Someday I might completely conquer this urge, but not yet. When I feel this happening, I hit the fridge and “pre-binge” on healthy foods, mainly raw veggies. Sooner or later, the ice cream or chips come out, but by that point, I’m so full of broccoli or spinach that I’m not physically capable of doing too much damage. Dysfunctional? Maybe, but a vast improvement over the alternative.
You might be one of those lucky souls who just decided to walk away from the candy counter and never looked back. Good for you. I’m not one of those people. Eating right is much easier but it’s still a process. That said, the rewards are innumerable, so why don’t you set down the pudding pop, grab a peach, and join me?

Don't Make a New Year's Resolution

This year I'm asking you NOT to make a New Year’s resolution. You read that correctly–DON’T make a resolution. They don’t work. Plain and simple. Take a look at the definition of resolution:
Definition of resolution
See the inherent problem? It’s vague, it’s ambiguous, and there’s nothing to sink your teeth into. It’s just a decision, not a plan of action.
More than 70% of people who make resolutions don’t keep them, and more than 40% never even start! Things don’t magically change on January 1st. You don’t suddenly become a different person, one who can stick to a diet or exercise program, if you never have in the past.
That’s why this year, we’re asking you to skip the resolution, and make a #REALsolution.
Follow this simple 4-step process to create a #REALsolution that will set you up for success all year long.
Step 1:
Set a clear, attainable goal. Think of exactly what you want to achieve, and be specific. Instead of,” I want to lose weight,” decide that, “I will lose 10 pounds by April 5.” Instead of “I want to eat clean,” decide that, “I will eat 7 servings of fruits and vegetables each day and I will try one new healthy recipe each week.”
Step 2:
Make a solid plan for achieving your goal. Choose a fitness program or nutrition plan to help you get there. Or, commit to using a program you already own and visit Beachbody's YouTube channel for motivation and mini-workouts from Tony Horton and Autumn Calabrese.
Step 3:
Download this accountability contract. Sign it. Post it somewhere you will see it every day. Snap a photo of the contract and post it on Instagram. Make sure to tag #REALsolution and @beachbodyhq. We’ll pick 5 winners to win a program of your choice, one each week from December 26-February 1.
Step 4:
If you’re not already part of a Challenge Group, join our #REALsolution Challenge Group on Facebook where you can check in daily, get encouragement, and stay accountable.
When you’ve reached your goal, repeat this 4-step process again to continue to improve!
Here are examples of what your accountability contract might look like:

Fitkini Challenge

Is $4-$5 a day for 60 days worth achieving your New Years Resolution ?!

Wow I cannot believe it is already that time of the year again! This time last year so many women joined me in my Fitkini Challenge group and saw some incredible results!!! Today they are rocking their new bodies and new control over their health and fitness!!

Tonight I am opening up 10 Spots in my 4th Annual New Year's Challenge Group! This group will begin January 5th! This year is your year to really lock in your New Years resolutions to get fit! Most Americans make a resolution that they will lose 10-50 LBS. They get about 3 weeks into the year, make some progress, and then fall into old habits! WHY?!?! THEY LACKED ACCOUNTABILITY and a sound game plan.

This isn't about quick fixes, pills, wraps, starvation diets. This is about fitness, clean eating, and a lifestyle change.

Together we will complete the appropriate fitness program for you!! We will discuss your goals and figure that part out together.

You will follow a dialed in meal to keep you from being super hungry, and tired while burning body fat!

We will replace one meal a day with a super dense dose of nutrition.
You will pay $4-$5 a day for 30-60 days (replacing the cost of lunch btw).

I will be hosting this group with a select few of my personally sponsored coaches to help you achieve the results that you desire.

You will also work with a group of other women as equally motivated as you!!

Space is limited to 10 women so act now!
